Jordan Brand is once again turning to the cultural roots of Rui Hachimura for its latest player-exclusive release. Moving away from bold, aggressive color blocking in favor of understated storytelling and meticulous craftsmanship, the sportswear giant has officially unveiled the Lakers forward’s unique spin on the experimental Air Jordan 4028. The heavily modified silhouette blends high-tech modern performance with traditional Japanese heritage to create a distinct, deeply personal basketball boot.

Serving as a sort of blank canvas for special projects, the Air Jordan 4028 famously mashes together the modern base of the Air Jordan 40 with the extra-tall zippered cover originally seen on the classic Air Jordan 28. For his edition, Hachimura opted to completely replace the standard neoprene shroud with a heavily textured college navy denim material. Directly referencing his Japanese heritage, the entire zippered outer layer is decorated with intricate sashiko repair stitching presented in a subtle, interlocking circular pattern.

Underneath the culturally inspired shroud, the sneaker remains firmly rooted in modern court performance. A tonal navy glossy mudguard wraps the base to provide sharp contrast and structure to the denim layer. The sleek, streamlined design sits atop a standard Jordan 40 midsole, which features highly responsive Zoom cushioning paired with a semi-translucent outsole engineered for maximum traction and control.

To keep the focus on the craftsmanship, external branding is intentionally kept minimal. The silhouette features classic Nike Air branding on the heel and a metallic silver Jumpman logo placed on the lateral side, while Rui Hachimura’s personal signature logo makes an appearance on the insole to serve as a final, quiet finishing touch.

The Air Jordan 4028 “Rui Hachimura” is currently expected to release during the Summer 2026.
