Joe Freshgoods has officially unveiled his 12th collaboration with New Balance, highlighting the emerging 1890 silhouette. Moving beyond early teasers, the Chicago-based designer provided a full reveal of the upcoming two-pack, which draws direct inspiration from the vibrant visuals and unmistakable attitude of 1990s rap and R&B music videos.
The collaborative New Balance 1890 arrives in two distinct colorways titled “Finger Waves” and “Naughty Things,” referencing the stylistic influence of iconic artists such as Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson, and Missy Elliott. The “Finger Waves” iteration adopts a cooler palette, utilizing purple tones layered across a breathable mesh upper. The design is heavily contrasted by glossy black overlays that extend through the midsole and heel. Taking a hotter design approach, the “Naughty Things” colorway shifts to a warmer spectrum, combining vibrant shades of orange, red, and yellow framed by black accents and bright contrast laces.
Both pairs feature the model’s signature ABZORB cushioning technology, ensuring the 1890 maintains its functional retro running roots while introducing a more sculpted, modern shape. Special packaging and discrete co-branded details round out the project, adding further depth to the duo’s long-running visual storytelling partnership. Look out for the release coming soon.
