New Balance‘s upcoming 990v7 has surfaced in greater detail after designer Joe Freshgoods previewed the unreleased silhouette on social media. The preview follows teasers on a New York Chinatown billboard and an earlier candid sighting on singer RosalĂa.

Building on the foundation of the 990v6, the updated iteration incorporates several distinct structural adjustments. The upper features an enlarged mudguard and overlays that sit noticeably higher, pushing underlying layers closer toward the forefoot. Reflective 3M accents are integrated throughout the build, while the prominent “N” midfoot branding takes design cues from archival models like the 990v3. The initial colorway retains the label’s signature grey suede upper, contrasted by a subtly aged finish applied across the insignia and midsole tooling.

Underfoot, New Balance re-engineers the cushioning system to deliver increased comfort while preserving the signature stability of the 990 lineage. The platform replaces firmer earlier compounds with a softer FuelCell foam formulation, reinforced by ENCAP cushioning, a CR stability component, and a redesigned TPU shank plate.
